Complete Guide to Getting Your First Pet

This guide covers the pet systems most new players need first: unlocking with souls, understanding Genus, and knowing where to look next in the database.

1. Souls unlock and level pets

Official Pet Guide progression: 5 souls to unlock a pet, then 25 more for the next stage. The exact soul total for Insight Lv.3 is unpublished — do not treat 105 as official. Prefer in-game tooltips after patches.

2. Learn Genus before chasing “best”

Pets are commonly grouped into Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special. Each Genus ties into Genus Insight bonuses. Read AION 2 Genus Insight explained for the table and soul calculator, then browse the pet database by Genus instead of memorizing long articles.

3. Pets and mounts overlap

Many AION 2 companions also function as mounts. Use the Type filter on the database to separate mounts from combat companions when planning your early collection.
